Software and System EngineeringMountain State Information Systems, Inc. has been involved in software and systems engineering since our inception in 1995. We continue to provide expertise in the development and continued operations and maintenance of the Aegis Weapon System and Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense. Areas of expertise here include the tactical executive systems, Aegis Combat Training System, and Aegis BMD tactical code. We provide onsite systems support at test sites as well as on board Aegis cruisers and destroyers. MSIS provides software expertise in the development of data reduction and analysis tools to support the US Navy’s efforts in providing shipboard combat systems to foreign Navies, such as Australia, Canada, Taiwan, and Korea. We also provide systems-level expertise in support of the US Navy’s Techrep on-site contingent at the Raytheon Facility in Tucson, AZ where SM-2 and SM-6 missiles are designed, developed, upgraded, and manufactured. This support provides a high-level technical liaison between Raytheon and the Navy, assisting in dealing with the technical questions and issues that arise during this type of major system development effort. MSIS is on-site at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana, providing software engineering and systems development expertise in the development of the new Ground Based Operational Surveillance System (GBOSS). This system is being developed for the US Marine Corps to enhance its ability to detect hostile troop movements. We have been working for NASA since 1997 at the NASA Independent Verification and Validation Facility in Fairmont, WV, providing software engineering expertise in support of performing IV&V on many NASA systems. IV&V is a particularly difficult and challenging work area as the analysts need to effectively “look over the shoulders” of the developers to find issues that the developers are often too close to the work to see themselves. This requires our analysts to have an understanding of the NASA systems that is as good or better than the developers, but without the advantage of actually performing the development tasks. In addition to analyzing the actual software code as it is developed, we also develop models of the NASA systems to then compare against system specifications. |
